LOS ANGELES – A robbery suspect believed to be the “Triple Threat Bandit” who hit two credit unions and one bank during a 90-minute spree last month, surrendered yesterday afternoon after leading police on an hour-long, high-speed chase through Los Angeles and Orange counties following another heist.
The man allegedly robbed a Banco Popular in Fullerton about 1 p.m., before getting into a maroon Chevy Suburban and fleeing on the 91 Freeway. The robber tossed money from the Suburban while traveling on the 91 and 110 freeways. The suspect eventually was captured after surrendering to California Highway Patrol officers on the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne just after 2 p.m.
The suspect is believed to be the same man dubbed the Triple Threat Bandit who hit a branch of Orange County CU in Fullerton, Union Yes FCU (formerly Building Trades FCU) in Orange and a U.S. Bank branch in Buena Park all on the same day last month, according to the FBI.
