Viral #KiKiChallenge helps nets $150K for charity from Michigan CUs

With the help of a viral social media challenge, the Michigan Credit Union League provided a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network.

The league raised a total of $158,635 for the Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit that supports children’s hospitals and health awareness and medical research. That total included money raised through the league’s #KiKiChallenge, silent and live auctions, golf outings and matched donations.

In 2018, the league rallied credit unions to participate in the #KiKiChallenge to raise money for the cause. The group instructed credit unions to film themselves dancing to the hit song “In My Feelings” by rapper Drake. For every Michigan credit union that posted a video participating in the challenge, the league donated $1,000 to that institution’s choice of Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

“What started as a light-hearted idea and challenge by One Detroit CU CEO Hank Hubbard became a groundswell of fun, humorous promotion of individual credit union brands and the credit union spirit,” MCUL President and CEO Dave Adams said in a statement.

An additional $10,000 of the total sum was raised thanks to a donation from the CO-OP Network.

The League concluded that it looks forward to seeing how it can assist CMN in 2019.
