Abu Dhabi Bank Plans Card for Web

A bank in the United Arab Emirates intends to launch a credit card designed for use exclusively at the online shopping service offered by Aramex Ltd., a Jordanian shipping company.

First Gulf Bank Ltd. of Abu Dhabi was expected to demonstrate its First Gulf Bank Internet Credit Card at a financial services trade show in Abu Dhabi this week.

The cards are not embossed and do not have magnetic stripes, so they cannot be used at automated teller machines or at the point of sale.

Cardholders must enter a personalized password before initiating online payments with the card. First Gulf will send cardholders text message alerts to acknowledge transactions made with the card.

Users will receive free access to Aramex's Shop&Ship service, which delivers online purchase to their homes.

First Gulf Bank would not say whether there are any fees associated with using the card.
