Australian Bank Creates Online Community for Retail Customers

Australia's Commonwealth Bank has launched an online retail banking support forum.

The forum is part of a major website redesign for the $747 billion-asset bank, it announced Tuesday. The Support Community forum will be backed by the crowdsourcing platform Lithium and will allow customers to submit questions and answers on retail banking and participate in discussions with their peers, the bank said.

U.S. Bank is also creating a similar online Answer Portal.

"Our launch of SupportCommunity is putting the world's most advanced technology at our customers' fingertips and utilizing the power of crowdsourcing to resolve queries in real time, making everyday banking easier," said Drew Unsworth, general manager of Commonwealth Bank's online banking, in the news release.

The redesigned website, at CommBank.com.au, will be launched later this month. The goal of the redesign is to offer customers a more intuitive and personalized experience, while eliminating clutter and making the front page easier to navigate, the bank said. The website is the most-visited financial services site in Australia and one of the country's ten most visited sites overall, according to Commonwealth.
