Banc of California (BANC) earned $4.4 million, or 36 cents a share, in the second quarter, compared with a $739,000 loss a year earlier. The results topped the expectations of analysts polled by Bloomberg by 13 cents.

Banc of California (BANC) in Irvine has hired a group of bankers to lead its new correspondent lending group.
Michael Falce, Larry Maitlin and Judy Treichler have joined the company's Pacific Trust Bank subsidiary, it announced Wednesday. They head the correspondent lending division that Pacific Trust recently added to its residential lending division.
The three joined Pacific Trust in July from Impac Mortgage's correspondent lending division. They "are proven, experienced leaders with a client-focused service model that will fit well as part of our new platform," Jeff Seabold, managing director of the residential lending division, said in a news release.
