Bank of America Adds Dozens of Bankers in Florida

Bank of America (BAC) has hired more than 130 bankers in Florida as part of a larger plan to bulk up its services for small-business owners.

The Charlotte, NC, company added 58 employees in South Florida, 28 in the Gulf Coast, 34 in central Florida and 18 in north Florida, Bank of America said Tuesday.

There are more than 2 million small businesses in Florida, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. These companies represent more than 98% of all employers and more than 40% of the private-sector work force.

In the first half of this year, Bank of America said that it has made more than $813.8 million in loans to small businesses in the state, including $361 million in new originations.

Despite plans to cut thousands of jobs in other areas, Bank of America is working to hire 1,000 small-business bankers nationwide. It has already added dozens of employees in IllinoisGeorgia and Washington, among other states.
