CyberSource Gives Rival More Backing

After shutting down its BidPay.com auction payment service at the end of 2007, CyberSource Corp. is expanding its support for a rival, PayPal Inc.

The Mountain View, Calif., online payment processor said Tuesday that it has begun offering support for PayPal Express Checkout to merchants in the United Kingdom and has enhanced its fraud protection capabilities for merchants in the United States and United Kingdom that accept PayPal Express Checkout transactions worldwide.

CyberSource said its merchant clients would be able to offer PayPal Express Checkout alongside other online payment options.

The service from PayPal, the online person-to-person payment processing unit of the online auctioneer eBay Inc. of San Jose, lets buyers authorize transactions without leaving a merchant's Web site.

CyberSource said it would take one-time fourth-quarter charges of $1.7 million to $2.7 million.
