Discover Financial Services has developed a payment card made from biodegradable materials.
The Riverwoods, Ill., credit card company said that its biodegradable card, announced Tuesday, is the only such card product available in the United States.
It is made from polyvinyl chloride, which enables up to 99% of the plastic to break down and be absorbed in a landfill within five years.
The cards are available to customers upon request, and will be offered to new customers, and can be identified by a biodegradable logo on the back.
