Equifax Buys Datum to Extend International Reach

Equifax Inc. has acquired Datum, a Costa Rican credit reporting company.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The move was part of Equifax's strategy to grow internationally, Paulino R. Barros, president of Equifax's international business, said in a press release Tuesday.

Equifax currently runs a shared services center in Costa Rica that provides information technology, data processing and customer support.

Equifax doubled the size of the center last year, to more than 500 employees.

Datum, which is based in San Jose, Costa Rica, collects, synthesizes and provides consumer credit data to banks, telecommunications companies and retail and insurance businesses.
