Fremont, First Data Have an ATM Pact

First Data Corp. has agreed to offer automated teller machine management services to Fremont Bank in California, including debit processing, hardware and software maintenance, and stocking the machines with cash.

The Denver processor announced its deal Monday with Fremont Bank, which already used First Data's Star debit network. The bank, a unit of Fremont Bancorp., has 24 branches and 32 ATMs.

As part of the agreement, First Data will install machines with check imaging technology from NCR Corp.

Fremont Bank said outsourcing its ATM operations was a cost-effective way to implement such advanced ATM capabilities.

"This new agreement helps us manage procurement, monthly maintenance fees and activities and offers us the latest in full service ATM technology without the bank having to spend significant extra dollars up front," Christopher A. Olson, the bank's chief operating officer, said in a First Data press release.
