IBM has helped another African bank boost its processing powers.
The technology company said Wednesday it has completed an upgrade of software and systems at Keystone Bank in Lagos, Nigeria, that has enabled the bank to speed service and operate more efficiently.
According to IBM, the overhaul has slashed Keystone Bank's end-of-day processing from as long as eight hours to fewer than three, accelerated turnaround times for internal communications and improved the bank's ability to comply with regulations and commitments to customers.
The data center, which was completed last year, is said to include IBM's Power 795 and Power 770 servers that run the company's operating system, virtualization software and disaster recovery scheme. Keystone also added IBM's high-capacity data storage system.
Together the hardware and software have increased the bank's processing performance by 90% and reduced operating costs by 60%, according to the companies.
"Almost overnight, we experienced very significant cost savings and improvements in our data and transaction processing times," Phillip Ikeazor, Keystone Bank's chief executive, said in a press release.
The installation at Keystone Bank continues a push by IBM to cater to financial institutions in Africa, where the company has sold systems and software to roughly 27 banks, including Ghana's Fidelity Bank and Rawbank in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
