In Brief: SBA Breaks 7(a) Guarantee Record

With seven weeks left in its fiscal year, the Small Business Administration has surpassed last year's 7(a) loan record.

As of Aug. 6 the agency had guaranteed 67,493 loans this fiscal year - 187 more than in fiscal 2003.

Demand for the loans has been higher this year, and the SBA has tried to make its funds go farther by making the average loan smaller.
