Fleet Names Top Exec for N.Y.-N.J. Push

NEW YORK - FleetBoston Financial Corp. said it has appointed Henrique de Campos Meirelles as senior executive in the New York-New Jersey market. Mr. Meirelles will remain president of the company's global banking and financial services unit.In a press release Monday announcing the appointment, FleetBoston said it is expanding its executive offices in the New York area. The financial services company is looking to open five to 10 branches in Manhattan in addition to the 18 it already has there.

3 Foreign Banks Get Financial Company OK

WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve Board on Monday granted financial holding company status to Bank of Montreal, UBS AG of Switzerland, and Rabobank of the Netherlands.The three approvals bring to 14 the number of foreign banks that have been granted financial holding company status under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Foreign banks and trade groups have protested that the Fed's rule implementing the financial holding company provision of the financial reform bill made it too difficult for foreign banks to get the designation.

B of A Makes Deal with Carolina Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bank of America Corp. said Monday it has signed a long-term partnership agreement with the Carolina Panthers, the local NFL franchise.The club level at Ericsson Stadium will be renamed the Bank of America Club Level. Bank of America Club Level signs will be installed before the new season starts in August. The bank also said it would install more ATMs in the stadium.

In addition, the bank said that starting this spring the Bank of America Carolina Panthers Caravan Tour would travel to cities around the region, giving fans and bank customers a chance to meet players. This year's tour stops, set for May, are Greensboro, Raleigh, and Greenville, N.C., and Columbia and Charleston, S.C.
