KPMG, Amex Alums Join VeriFone Board

VeriFone Holdings Inc. announced Monday that former executives of KPMG International and American Express Co. have joined its board. One of the new directors, Robert W. Alspaugh, was KPMG's chief executive from 2002 to 2006. He is also a director of Ball Corp. and Autoliv Inc.

The other new director is Jeffrey E. Stiefler, who was Amex's president from 1993 to 1995. Mr. Stiefler was also chief executive of Digital Insight Corp., the online banking vendor that Intuit Inc. bought last year. He stayed on through the acquisition and left Intuit on July 31.

Both men will join VeriFone's audit committee. Mr. Alspaugh will join its corporate governance and nominating committee.

Douglas Bergeron, VeriFone's CEO, said in a press release Monday that both new directors "are seasoned executives with tremendous exposure in a variety of industries and will add considerable value as we continue to expand our operations worldwide."
