MoneyGram Shakes Up Management

MoneyGram International has named a new chief financial officer and an executive to oversee emerging markets.

The money transfer company has promoted W. Alexander Holmes to executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective immediately. He succeeds James E. Shields, who has been CFO since July 2010, MoneyGram said Wednesday. Shields will remain with the company through May 15.

Holmes was most recently MoneyGram's senior vice president for corporate strategy and investor relations. In his new role, he will oversee all finance-related functions and work with the company's business unit leaders.

MoneyGram also said in a separate news release on Wednesday that it named Carl-Olav Scheible as executive vice president of Europe, Africa and emerging channels, effective April 16. He will be responsible for overseeing and growing MoneyGram's business in Europe and Africa. Based in London, he will report to Pamela H. Patsley, chairman and chief executive of MoneyGram.

For the last eight years, Scheible worked in a variety of leadership roles at PayPal Inc., a unit of eBay Inc., most recently serving as managing director for the U.K.

Additionally, MoneyGram has launched its first global marketing campaign specifically designed to reach more than 90 million Filipinos living around the world. The campaign features popular television and film celebrity Robin Padilla.
