Jennifer Openshaw has been named the executive director of the Financial Women's Association, a nonprofit business forum for women.

Openshaw most recently served as president of Finect, a social networking platform for wealth advisors. She was previously the founder and chief executive of Women's Financial Network, a financial services company now owned by Siebert Financial.

"Advancing women the industry — including our next generation — is more important than ever," said Openshaw in a press release to be issued Tuesday. "The FWA has delivered for over 50 years and I can't wait to help them continue to advocate and impact women in the financial industry."

She succeeds Nancy Sellar, who led the organization for nearly 30 years before announcing her retirement in 2012.

The Financial Women's Association is based in New York.
