In the latest phase of an effort to hire leaders from the retail world (including Tracey Weber from Travelocity and Frank Eliason from Comcast), Citigroup Inc. has hired Omar Khan, chief technology officer at Samsung Mobile, to head mobile initiatives on a global basis. Khan is said to have led Samsung's moves into the Android space.
Khan joined Citi Monday, reporting directly to Mark Torkos, chief information officer, global consumer technology. He will have a number of projects on his plate, including Citi's role in Google Wallet.
