a little cheer this holiday season - and to boost deposits in the process. The $2.2 billion-asset bank is donating $15 to the Salvation Army for every $10,000 consumers put in one-year certificates of deposit bought between Nov. 10 and Dec. 7. Bank of Mississippi officials came up with the idea for the "BellRinger CD" as a way to attract deposits at a time when the bank is experiencing heavy loan demand. Harry Baxter, the bank's marketing chief, said the CD promotion is being advertised in newspapers and on radio and television. He expects the bank to net between $25,000 and $50,000 for the charity group. "We should have the numbers in by Dec. 22 and we'll be able to cut a check just in time for Christmas," Mr. Baxter said.
