South Korean Issuer to Use IBM Servers

BC Card, South Korea's largest credit card issuer, is planning to use servers from International Business Machines Corp. to handle its payment systems.

IBM, of Armonk, N.Y., said Wednesday that BC Card has agreed to shift its payment processing systems to its System z mainframes and System z10 servers.

BC Card, of Seoul, will also use IBM's software, and its consulting and systems integration services to install and run the payments system. BC Card also considered systems from Oracle Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co.

IBM said BC Card's systems process hundreds of millions of transactions per day from 40 million cardholders and 2.62 million merchants.
