Tech Bytes: Data Security Firm Hires Longtime Banker

Banking industry veteran Jim Watt has been named financial industry sales manager of Spyrus, a leading provider of information security tools such as smart cards and public key encryption infrastructures.

The appointment indicates acceleration of Spyrus' efforts to penetrate the banking market. Mr. Watt will build direct and alliance-based sales channels, said Sue Pontius, Spyrus' president and chief executive officer.

"We are seeing increased demand for Spyrus' software and hardware solutions within the financial sector," Ms. Pontius said. "Jim brings us a wealth of experience in the financial industry, in combination with a customer-first focus that will ensure customers receive the highest-quality service and security technologies available."

Mr. Watt has spent more than 30 years in financial, technology, and consulting positions, including stints with Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, Security Pacific National Bank, University Computing Co., SEI Corp., and Logica Inc.
