U.S. Bank to Launch Mobile Card Balance Transfers

U.S. Bancorp, the fifth largest commercial bank in America, announced Monday it will make available a mobile photo balance transfer feature in November.

The forthcoming functionality, built by Mitek Systems, will let smartphone-equipped customers snap a photo of a credit card payment coupon to apply for a balance transfer to a U.S. Bank credit card.

The feature follows U.S. Bank's launch of mobile photo bill pay in March.

"U.S. Bank recognizes the power of mobile imaging and its ability to enhance our customers' experience by giving them new and innovative ways to access and manage their banking relationship with us," said Niti Badarinath, senior vice president and head of mobile banking at U.S. Bank, in a press release.

San Diego County Credit Union has been piloting the credit card balance transfer technology.
