VeriFone Sells Millionth Terminal in Russia

VeriFone Systems Inc. said Wednesday that it has installed a million payment acceptance systems in Russia.

The San Jose terminal maker, which is making a push for new Eastern European business, said the millionth device was installed at an Eldorado electronics retail store in Tyumen, a city east of Moscow.

In November, VeriFone said it was paying about $825 million to Nordic Capital Fund V, which owns Point, a Stockholm gateway service provider. Earlier this year, VeriFone completed the purchase of part of Hypercom Corp. The deal was made on the strength of the Scottsdale, Ariz., company's Eastern European customer base, executives say.
