Align Commerce, a San Francisco-based firm focused on cross-border payments for small and midsize businesses while expanding the use of blockchain technology to move currency, has hired Intuit veteran Jay Hansen as compliance officer and general counsel.
Hansen most recently served as assistant general counsel and compliance officer for Intuit Inc.’s payments and commerce solutions division, overseeing money transmitter-licensing for 50 states and anti-money laundering programs, running the company’s compliance team for domestic and international payments processing and managing a small-business lending referral business in the U.S. Hansen previously worked as an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati where he focused on startups.
At Align, Hansen will provide guidance to the organization in financial crime prevention, governance risk, compliance and anti-money laundering. Align recently closed a $12.5 million Series A funding round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
Hansen said in a press release he was drawn to Align because of the company’s deep expertise in fintech at a time when new technologies are revolutionizing international payments for small businesses, where he sees major opportunities for growth.
