U.S. Bank's cobranded credit card smartphone app, which allows consumers to apply for credit cards in retail stores without filling out a paper application, is now available for Android handsets.
Recreation Equipment Inc. will be first to deploy the Android version of the mobile app, U.S. Bank said in a May 24 press release.

Designed to improve customer service and enhance security, U.S. Bank's mobile credit card app enables users to apply for instant credit using their handset instead of providing that information to a store employee. If approved, customers receive a virtual, temporary card they may use immediately at checkout terminals. The app also allows users to check their credit card account balance, review recent transactions and make a payment.
U.S. Bank plans to roll out its mobile credit card app to other cobranded credit card partners this year, the issuer said in the release.
"The U.S. Bank Card App for iPhone and now Android enables our partners to offer convenience and immediate purchasing power to more customers, regardless of their mobile devices," John Owens, senior vice president of U.S. Bank Retail Payment Solutions, said in the release.
