Financial services and payments technology provider ACI Worldwide will support U.K.-based convenience food retailer Co-operative Group with its cloud-based merchant payments service.
ACI's Universal Payments software for merchants will deliver various payments options to a new Co-op program in which members at Co-op's more than 2,800 stores and gas stations across the U.K. can use membership cards to make payments, save money at those locations and choose favorite charities to support through purchases.
“ACI is delighted to partner with Co-op on this new and innovative scheme," Andrew Quartermaine, vice president at ACI Worldwide, stated in a Feb. 27 press release. “ACI’s UP Merchant Payments solution has the breadth and flexibility to support and integrate new services that go beyond traditional payments.”

Co-op had announced that more than five million members would receive new membership cards for the program. ACI's cloud-based payments service will support in-store and mobile POS card-present transactions as well as e-commerce and mobile card-not-present transactions.
ACI has also started the production rollout of its point-to-point encryption security for card payments at all Co-op UK food stores and fuel sites to protect cardholder data through conversion of a consumer’s confidential credit and debit card data into indecipherable codes when the payment terminal accepts the card. The merchant payment solution also operates with EMV chips and tokenization. ACI will run all services for Co-op from its European data center, which it opened last year in Limerick, Ireland.
