First Data Corp. has relocated its headquarters to Atlanta, the payment processor announced today. "With the recent announcement of Bank of America Merchant Services and the establishment of a core group of executives and senior business leaders in Atlanta, it made sense to make the change," a First Data spokesperson tells CardLine. "Additionally, Atlanta is known for being a hub for the payments industry, and it is home to many of our large merchant customers." In June, First Data and Bank of America Corp. announced a merchant processor joint venture called Banc of America Merchant Services LLC that also is based in Atlanta. (CardLine, 6/29). First Data says it has approximately 750 employees in Atlanta and will continue to have sizable staffs in Omaha, Neb., and Greenwood Village, Colo., which had been the processor's headquarters since 2001.
