Fiserv Completes Test of Cardless ATM Access at Fla. Credit Union

Fiserv has completed a test run of its card-free ATM software, in partnership with VyStar Credit Union.

The $5.6 billion-asset VyStar in Jacksonville, Fla., implemented Fiserv's CardFree Cash product to offer customers the ability to withdraw cash from ATMs without using a debit card. The test took place on ATMs that participate in Payment Alliance International's system and was completed on Accel's debit payments network.

Fiserv plans to roll out the finished product sometime next year, Dave Keenan, senior vice president of network solutions, said in an interview. VyStar is the only institution thus far to have hosted a test run of CardFree Cash.

CardFree Cash lets users access accounts and withdraw cash with a secure access code and PIN at ATMs running the Fiserv software. Members can access funds from an ATM immediately without a debit card, Melissa Thomas, VyStar's vice president of electronic payments and card services, said in a news release.

The cost for a bank or credit union to upgrade its ATM to adapt CardFree Cash depends on the type of ATM, Keenan said. ATMs that are already Internet-enabled can add the software at a lower price, he said, declining to provide specific amounts.

CardFree Cash also gives financial institutions the ability to let customers link a mobile banking app with its ATM network, he said.
