Flywire, Geoswift offer promotions for cross-border tuition payments

Two of the biggest providers of cross-border tuition payment services for international education are targeting more than 5 million students preparing for college studies abroad this fall.

Flywire and Mastercard for the first time are offering discounts on cross-border tuition payments made through Sept. 30, 2017 with Mastercard targeting students from 11 countries studying at any of the hundreds of schools Boston-based Flywire connects to globally, the companies said in a Tuesday press release.

Students coming from China, Hong Kong, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Mexico, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Canada and the U.S. are eligible for the discount, which varies based on the location, according to the release.

Separately, Hong Kong-based Geoswift has announced a promotion with UnionPay International and Western Union Business Solutions targeting Chinese students studying abroad that will award Amazon gift cards worth RMB 100 (US$15) for every tuition payment of at least RMB 10,000 (US$1,500), the companies said on Monday.

The promotion is available to UnionPay cardholders paying via GeoSwift’s PayTuitionNow portal through March 31, 2018 who are studying in the U.S., U.K., Canada, New Zealand, France, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Czech Republic and Ireland, the companies said.

China accounts for about 25% of international students in the world and the U.S., U.K. and Canada are the three most popular destinations for their overseas studies, Geoswift said in the release.
