After a making a number of adjustments to overcome a shaky start, Google Wallet is starting to build momentum with merchants, this week adding Shopify, Dunkin Donuts and Seamless to the roster of companies supporting the search company's mobile wallet.
The introduction of Apple Pay and the planned Samsung Pay system are building momentum for mobile payments, but are also creating a competitive market for technology providers.
Google recently upped its digital payments game by adding person-to-person payments to Gmail and will gain a number of new merchants through its partnership with Shopify, which enables businesses to build online storefronts.
Shopify also supports payments through an iOS app and has added payment processing and analytics to track sales performance. The company is expected to add Apple Pay soon.
Seamless is a food delivery company that operates in cities such as New York, Washington, DC and San Francisco. Dunkin Donuts has also been an early adopter of mobile payments technology.
