In seeking a more secure way for consumers to use payment cards when shopping online, Deutsche Bank, Mastercard and Idemia say they have launched the first motion code card in Spain.
The Tarjeta Calma payment card will utilize a dynamic cryptogram on the back of the card that changes randomly to provide better security by preventing data theft and card cloning.
Idemia, a French augmented identity technology provider, first launched the technology in the spring of 2018, seeking to replace the static three-digit security code usually printed on the back of a card. The motion card uses a mini e-paper screen that displays the dynamic code and refreshes it automatically over a period of hours. The Tarjeta Calma card's display will change every four hours.
"The Mastercard Tarjeta Calma will go beyond usual payment card benefits and offer customers the latest security tech so that they can buy online in an environment where online shopping is every growing," Luis Miegimolle, card manager at Deutsche Bank, said in a Friday press release.
Last July, Idemia launched a motion card through Visa and RHB Bank in Malaysia for consumers in Southeast Asia.
