Ingenico Group has expanded its point-of-sale terminal footprint in Asia through an acquisition of reseller Airlink in Taiwan.
Taipei-based Airlink provides customized payment services to acquirers and retailers, including POS terminals, field services and software development.
Because of Airlink's knowledge of the local market and relationships with leading banks, acquirers and large merchants in the region, Paris-based Ingenico says it can now grow in Taiwan and strengthen its position in Northeast Asia.

"We are delighted to welcome the Airlink team to Ingenico Group," Patrice Le Marre, executive vice president for Ingenico's banks and acquirers business unit, said in a Thursday press release.
Airlink's "comprehensive portfolio of services dedicated to terminal estates is a key asset in a country where electronic payments are ramping up quickly," Le Marre added.
With more than 250,000 terminals deployed, the Taiwanese market is expected to continue to grow, as the government encourages the shift from cash towards electronic transactions, Ingenico said.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The transaction closing will be subject to the approval of local authorities, Ingenico said.
Airlink currently employs more than 100 people.
