JCB expands acquiring through ACI, eyes Uzbekistan

Japanese card issuer and acquirer JCB International has worked with real-time payments software provider ACI Worldwide to launch a web API-based payment service.

The JCB Web API Service is powered through and has full implementation of the ACI Secure eCommerce solution that helps acquirers, merchants and payments service providers drive payments acceptance across Asia and other global markets.

Tokyo-based JCB, with cards accepted at about 35 million merchant locations globally, will operate the Web API Service as a processing interface to accelerate JCB Card acceptance in growing markets, especially Asia. The API-based dispute processing function enables acquirers to receive chargeback notifications and request needed information as part of the remedy process for chargebacks via the Web API.

JCB says the result will be a more streamlined and efficient dispute handling operation for acquirers.

"We are committed to expanding our global business and enabling our card members to pay for goods and services around the world," Kenta Seya, executive vice president of JCB, said in a Tuesday press release. "ACI Secure eCommerce is globally proven with merchants and providers across geographies, industries and verticals."

The full rollout of JCB Web API also enables acquirers and payments providers to support merchants and offer more ways to pay for JCB cardholders.

JCB also announced Tuesday that it has started merchant acquiring operations across the Republic of Uzbekistan, as it eyes the region's potential for increased tourism activity from visiting Russian consumers.

The JCB merchant acquiring will unfold through Uzpromstroybank, or the Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank, as the initiative also seeks to increase cashless money circulation in the region and improve customer service.

For the past two years, Uzpromstroybank has launched a project to modernize card processing and to issue international cards with an electronic PIN code, along with other services that include JCB and expanded acquiring networks.

JCB says its cards are now issued in more than 20 countries and territories and they serve more than 140 million cardholders.
