Mastercard rolls out pack of APIs for QR code use cases

Mastercard wants to make it easier for banks, merchants and other third parties to use its payments technology on new platforms through a set of new APIs it’s releasing that address use cases ranging from mobile and chatbot payments to consumer spending controls.

Through its Mastercard Developers platform, Mastercard on Tuesday announced access to more than 40 proprietary payments, data and security products and services to streamline integrations.

Examples include APIs that enable companies to accept cashless payment from their customers’ smartphones by scanning a Masterpass QR code at merchant locations equipped to accept those, and provide cardholders with transaction notifications and spending alerts, as well as driving mobile order-ahead with the Qkr! with Masterpass feature and testing of chatbot technology for message-based commerce, according to the press release.

Mastercard also is providing a category of new and experimental APIs with its latest release, covering new and emerging applications, the company said.
