Neiman Marcus Inc.'s exclusive credit card acceptance policies are no more.
The Dallas-based department store chain on July 16 said it now accepts the Discover card, just nine months after giving the green light
The 41-store chain, which caters to upscale consumers, was an anomaly for decades with its policy of accepting only American Express and its own private-label cards.
But last November Neiman Marcus put an end to Amex's reign as the only card brand it accepted. A few months later, the department store quietly became a loyalty-program partner with Discover Financial Services, enabling shoppers to exchange Discover loyalty points for Neiman Marcus gift cards.
Observers may also banish the notion that Discover cardholders are less well-heeled than Neiman Marcus' regulars.
"We know that Discover cardmembers are eager to use their cards at Neiman Marcus, given that our customers are some of the most affluent credit cardholders in the industry," Michael Canady, Vice President of Strategic Merchant Relations at Discover, said in a press release.
For online purchases, Neiman Marcus has long accepted Discover, Visa and MasterCard. And the company also accepts all card brands at its outlet store Last Call, as well as at its Bergdorf Goodman, Cusp and Horchow stores.
"By adding Discover as another payment option, Neiman Marcus continues to give customers more flexibility and convenience at the point of sale," Jim Gold, President, Specialty Retail, The Neiman Marcus Group, said in the release.
