New York Law Firm Appoints Leader for Blockchain Team

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP has named Marco Santori to head a team at the lawfirm that's focused on digital currency and blockchain technology.

Santori has served as chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation's Regulatory Affairs Committee since 2013 and has often testified to Congress on digital currency issues. He's testified before the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, and has done research on Apple's impact on virtual currency, state licenses for Bitcoin and tax issues related to virtual currency.

"Marco's leadership of Pillsbury's digital currency team underscores our commitment to this disruptive space," said Pillsbury chairman Jim Rishwain. "His understanding of this burgeoning industry is unparalleled. Our digital currency team provides a wide range of service offerings and boasts a roster of respected practitioners. Marco will work with the team to hone and expand its expertise in step with the innovative companies in this sector."

As virtual currencies have expanded, the underlying blockchain technology is also gaining attention, particularly by companies that are interested in its possible uses beyond virtual currency.
