Nok Nok Labs has expanded its suite of payment authentication services for the Fast IDentity Online Alliance infrastructure, adding one-touch biometrics, out-of-band authentication and measures to address friendly fraud.
The latest version of Nok Nok's omni-channel mobile service, called S3 Authentication Suite, embeds biometrics and security modules, including native support in platforms that include iOS 9 and Android Marshmallow, the most recent versions of Apple's and Google's mobile operating systems, Nok Nok stated in an Oct. 26 press release.
Nok Nok Labs has been at the forefront of the FIDO Alliance efforts to eliminate traditional password methods for stronger authentication measures in e-commerce.
“With the continued high-profile data breaches and the growing diversity of devices and users that relying parties need to support, the evidence continues to build that mobile authentication must evolve beyond today’s password-centric framework,” Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of Nok Nok Labs, stated in the release.“
As a founding member of the FIDO Alliance, Nok Nok has recognized the demand in the market for a unified solution that allows a more secure, yet simpler experience across devices, services and operating systems, Dunkelberger added.
S3 Authentication now includes fingerprint-enabled authentication to FIDO-enabled mobile applications on Samsung Galaxy S6 or iOS Touch ID-enabled devices.

The suite upgrade also provides out-of-band authentication, allowing users to leverage FIDO capabilities on their mobile devices to provide authentication for sessions initiated on separate devices, such as a desktop web browser.
The suite reduces friendly fraud on shared devices by ensuring that only the primary user can authenticate to a device through fingerprint authentication for payments, and not any friend or family member who may also use the device.
Nok Nok plans to make the suite available late in 2015, but some industry leaders, including PayPal and Alipay have already deployed it.
Major banks, mobile networks, healthcare software integrators and major trading networks are also testing the technology, Nok Nok stated.
