Product-Support Web Site Adds Prepaid Card For Payments

FixYa Ltd., a product-support community Web site that features freelance technical-support experts, Tuesday announced it is offering a prepaid debit card as a payment option. FixYa's technical experts can choose to receive payments via the FixYa prepaid MasterCard instead of through wire transfers or transfers from PayPal Inc. accounts. "With 40% of our [freelancer] base located outside the U.S., FixYa needed a one-stop [product] to ensure our experts get paid promptly, no matter where in the world they live," Yaniv Bensadon, FixYa CEO, said in a statement. Payoneer Inc., a New York- based prepaid card manager, provides the cards. Payoneer also provides prepaid cards for Guru.com, an online marketplace for freelancers; iStockphoto, which claims to be the "Internet's original member-generated image-and-design community;" and 2Checkout.com, an authorized reseller for online retailers. "The prepaid card is a good product to help solve the problem of paying [freelancers] overseas," Yuval Tal, Payoneer CEO, tells CardLine sister publication ATM&Debit News. FixYa cardholders can spend or withdraw funds in their own currencies. A Web site enables freelancers to check their card balances and transaction histories. FixYa reloads cards monthly as soon as the FixYa expert earns at least $50 for solving product-support inquiries. FixYa experts earn income based on customer ratings and reviews. Storm Lake, Iowa-based MetaBank issues the cards, and i2c Inc. processes the transactions. Tal did not disclose the fees charged for the card but says they vary based on the partnership. "Right now, we're focused more on getting more market share than profitability," Tal says.
