Revel Systems' deal with the New Orleans-based Smoothie King franchise will be the largest deployment to date of its iPad point of sale software.
Smoothie King will use Revel's cloud-based POS as the primary system in its 547 locations nationwide, said Chris Ciabarra, chief technology officer and co-founder of Revel.
"Smoothie King picked us over all others, and this is a really big deal for us," Ciabarra said.
The deal puts San Francisco-based Revel in a position to illustrate that its iPad system can "handle all of those transactions for franchisers across the country," Ciabarra added. "That's a lot of volume and a lot of people involved."
The Revel POS will handle customer orders and payment processing in addition to inventory tabulations, back-end management and sales reporting, Ciabarra said.
Smoothie King's employees tend to be younger and very familiar with iPads, making Revel's plug-and-play system a comfortable fit for the franchise, he added.
