Standard Cognition’s cashierless store goes live

Standard Cognition has opened its first cashierless store to the public on Market Street in San Francisco and it’s testing the concept by selling an assortment of food and household products for consumers to purchase and pay without scanning or stopping to check out.

In the short term, shoppers must download the company’s Standard Checkout app in order to shop, but later this year anyone will be apple to shop without the app and pay via cash or a credit card, according to a Friday press release.

A competitor to the Amazon Go initiative, which so far has three stores open to the publici in Seattle, Standard Cognition has signed several undisclosed retailers who plan to roll out stores using the technology, according to a spokesperson.

Store hours, product selection and shopper capacity will be part of the test phase in the coming weeks, the release said.

“The public opening of our Standard Market store is the culmination of nearly two years of work by the Standard team,” said Jordan Fisher, Standard Cognition’s co-founder and CEO, in the release.
