VeriFone Adds New Self-Service Payment Devices

VeriFone has launched UX Solutions, a suite of payment devices that support EMV-chip and mag-stripe payments.

The payment terminals are designed for parking meters, gas stations, ticketing machines and other self-service centers and are built with LCD screens that guide consumers through transactions and display payment amounts. The UX devices also support targeted marketing.

"More than half of consumers are willing to shop at fully automated self-service stores and prefer self-checkout stations in order to avoid waiting in line," says Bill Nelson, executive vice president of global product management at services at VeriFone, in a Nov. 18 press release. "The UX series provides the flexible configuration of self-service systems that merchants need to meet this growing consumer demand, as well as added benefits of field-upgradeability, tamper resistance and multiple connectivity options that meet the broad range of unattended payment requirements."

Other companies that have developed technology for parking and self service payments include NCR and QuickPay, which recently deployed new mobile payment-accepting parking meters in Portland, Ore. MasterCard works with Parkeon to deliver offers through the vendor's parking kiosks.
