VeriFone Buys Out Taxi Service Partner

VeriFone Holdings Inc. on April 2 announced the acquisition of TaxiTronic Inc.’s minority ownership in the VeriFone Transportation System joint venture the two companies formed in 2005.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. TaxiTronic is a fleet manager for the New York City taxi industry.

As of December, VeriFone’s taxi point-of-sale products were in 13,700 taxis, twice the 2008 total, VeriFone says (see story). Revenue from the taxi products accounted for 5% of VeriFone’s fourth quarter last year. VeriFone has yet to make more recent data available.
