Wirecard to support digital POS system for German department store

Wirecard will supply all digital payment POS services for KaDeWe, a dominant department store operator in Wirecard’s home market of Germany, as part of an expanded relationship.

The move comes after Wirecard worked with KaDeWe Group over the last year enabling the retailer to accept Chinese mobile payment methods including Alipay and WeChat Pay at its stores, according to a Monday press release.

Wirecard will handle the entire POS payment process at the flagship KaDeWe store in Berlin, along with the company’s other stores in Germany including Alsterhaus in Hamburg and Oberpollinger in Munich, the release said.

The project includes Wirecard installing about 450 stationary and mobile POS devices in the three stores, which draw tens of thousands of local and international customers daily, Wirecard said in the release.

“This announcement further proves our expertise not only for Chinese mobile payments, but also for the entire payment scope including value-added services such as data analytics, enabling merchants to further individualize and improve the customer journey,” said Alexander Hahn, Wirecard’s vice president of POS retail solutions, in the release.

Wirecard has played a key role in expanding acceptance of Chinese mobile payment methods across Europe.
