10 Financial Pundits Turned Social Media Hounds

In an industry where everyone seems to have an opinion, these financial services veterans have learned to leverage Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media to their advantage.
Neil Barofsky
The former Special Inspector General of TARP has sharply criticized the Obama administration and the financial services industry, in his book "Bailout" and from a very active (and candid) Twitter feed. Sample Tweet: "@johndalytv what a load from Geithner. We suggested numerous paths in 2010 that he ignored. He CHOSE to ignore homeowners, plain and simple."

Sallie Krawcheck
The former Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney head frequently blogs on her LinkedIn page. One sample post is entitled "What I Learned When I Got Fired (the First Time) ." Until recently, Krawcheck was also very active on Twitter. (She has gone conspicuously silent ever since her name was bounced around as a candidate to run the Securities and Exchange Commission .)

Brett King
Techies can follow the "Bank 3.0" author, onetime Bank Technology News Innovator of the Year and "foremost disruptor in the retail banking space" (his words, not ours) Brett King to keep abreast of far-reaching digital banking trends. Nassim Taleb
Essayist and "Black Swan" author Nassim Taleb uses Twitter not to "promote," but to "correct" (again, his words, not ours). Case in point: he once got in a well-publicized Twitter fight with U.K. blogger Daniel Davies that somehow roped in New York Times economist Paul Krugman.

Larry Summers
Economist and former Treasury Secretary Summers keeps the public in the loop of his numerous media appearances via his website (www.larrysummers.com ) and on Twitter. Sample tweet: "Set your alarm clock! I will be a guest host on @SquawkNBC tomorrow at 6:30 am."

Nouriel Roubini
The economist, who notably predicted the collapse of the housing market (and the subsequent recession) back in 2006, shares his thoughts frequently via Twitter. Sample tweet: "Many advanced economies (EZ, UK, Japan) were in a recession in Q3 and/or Q4 of 2012. Can the US decouple from this risk as the cliff looms?" The former Lehman Brothers vice president, now a consultant, is active on Twitter , Facebook and LinkedIn . McDonald also maintains a blog — useful, since he advertises himself as "Wall Street's most influential blogger" — though the posts are largely aggregates of his numerous television appearances.

The founding managing partner of Westwood Capital LLC maintains a blog called Dan Alpert's Two Cents at EconoMonitor. He's also pretty candid when sharing his thoughts on Twitter. Jennifer Schulz
With 794 followers, Visa's Global Head of eCommerce may have yet to establish herself as a Twitter powerhouse, but she certainly appears interested in increasing her social media presence. A recent Visa press release included her Twitter handle as part of a quote's attribution.
