  • I would like to follow up on a recent letter to the editor by Dick Johnson regarding Western Bridge Federal credit Union. In it, he closed by saying: "One of the things that NCUA has done absolutely right was appointing Mr. Perkins to this job. On or about July 1, 2012, Western Bridge will be a closed book, and that brings sadness to this writer's heart." Mr. Johnson has been totally on point many times in his career and this time is no different. Phil Perkins greatly improved the credit union system since the day he started at WesCorp and later Western Bridge. He is one of the many folks that we, over the years, find outside of the credit union system and convert to being a true credit unionist. He provided leadership at a time and in a situation where few chose to step up. His remarkable leadership skills have guided Western Bridge through the conservatorship while never decreasing service provided to member credit unions. We would have a better credit union movement with Phil Perkins in it.
