Short Takes: Huntington Takes Over Ohio Business Insurer

Huntington Insurance Services, a division of Huntington Bancshares, Columbus, Ohio, has bought an insurance agency that specializes in insurance for corporations, their owners, and their key executives.

Pollock & Pollock Inc., headquartered in Cleveland, will be consolidated with Huntington Insurance and take the company's name, Huntington announced Thursday.

Pollock & Pollock focuses on insurance needs related to areas like business succession, executive deferred compensation plans, and executive retirement and estate planning.

Huntington Insurance started selling corporate-related insurance early in 1997, said William K. Browning, president of Huntington Insurance Services."This is just part of our strategy of growth," Mr. Browning said.

Pollock & Pollock has six agents and more than $1 billion of life insurance in force through carriers including Guardian, CIGNA and New England Life. It oversees benefit plans totaling more than $250 million in qualified plan assets.

Mr. Browning declined to give figures for his agency's assets or sales. The business has nine agents.
