Huntington to Add Image Capture at ATMs

Huntington Bancshares (HBAN) plans to upgrade hundreds of its automated teller machines to add image-capture technology, and will roll out mobile deposit later this year.

The Columbus, Ohio, company will convert 450 of its 800 ATMs to image capture by the end of the year, reports Columbus Business First. The bank expects the ATM upgrades to lower the number of transactions at its branches by 10%, the report said, citing Huntington’s director of retail and business banking. Mary Navarro.

The first to be converted will be 110 machines located in central Ohio, which are scheduled to be upgraded by March 4. The bank will finish the remaining conversions by June. It also plans to launch an app that will allow customers to deposit checks with their smartphones, Columbus Business First reported.

The $56 billion-asset Huntington National Bank has 929 offices in seven states, according to information from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
