Eastern Plucks Citizens Bank's Massachusetts Market President

Eastern Bank has hired the Massachusetts market president of Citizens Bank, Quincy Miller, to be its chief banking officer.

Miller will join the $9.6 billion-asset mutual in March as chief banking office and vice chairman, it said Tuesday.

Miller is also expected to succeed Robert Rivers as president of Eastern Bank on Jan. 1, 2017. Rivers will succeed Richard Holbrook as Eastern's chairman and chief executive at the same time.

Holbrook's pending retirement and Rivers' promotion had been previously announced.

Miller had been Massachusetts state president for the $138 billion-asset Citizens Financial Group since June. He had also been president of the business banking division of Citizens, in Providence, R.I. Miller had worked for Citizens Bank since 2006, after working for M&T Bank.
