SAFE To Build Four Office Projects

SUMTER, S.C.-SAFE Federal Credit Union awarded HBE Financial Facilities four branch office projects. The design features brick exteriors with blue faschia, blue window frames and gray glass to match the CU's corporate colors. In addition to a lobby and drive-up teller facilities, the building interiors will include a branch manager office, conference room and open space for member service representatives.

US Alliance Hosts Six Delegates

RYE, N.Y.-Six delegates from the Zenshinren Research Institute of New York met with US Alliance Federal Credit Union to discuss several issues facing the credit union industry, including management strategy under a new, competitive environment, the delivery of services through traditional and high-tech channels, branch development and new financial products. Zenshinren is a Japanese firm that specializes in the development of small business services.

CCCU Contributes To Foundation

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-The California Center Credit Union contributed $500 to the Richard Myles Johnson Educational Foundation, which supports training and advancement of credit unions and provides grants to smaller credit unions for training and conferences.

SACU Helps Future Homeowners

SAN ANTONIO, Texas-San Antonio Alternative Housing Corp. and Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio, Inc. partnered with San Antonio Federal Credit Union, USA Federal Savings Bank and other community members to build Villas de San Antonio, a development of 62 homes for low-to-moderate-income families. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house were held to celebrate the opening of the subdivision.

COFCU Partners With School

LAS VEGAS-Community One FCU is partnering with Gibson Middle School to help at-risk students. Gibson's needs range from physical items such as books, musical instruments, and school supplies to reading to students, supervising in the lunchroom and one-on-one mentoring.

DCCU Holds Ribbon-Cutting Event

DUBUQUE, Iowa-Dupaco Community Credit Union held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Galena, Ill. office.

Oakdale CU Breaks Ground

MAUSTON, Wis.-Oakdale Credit Union recently broke ground for a new facility adjacent to its State Street branch. The 1,120-square-foot facility is scheduled for completion in September.

WesCorp Contributes To United Way

SAN DIMAS, Calif.-Employees of WesCorp Federal Credit Union contributed $20,000 in the 2000 United Way campaign. WesCorp is making an institutional donation of $4,000, bringing the total contribution to $24,000.

"I'm proud of our employees and their generosity to this very worthy course," said CEO Richard Johnson.

BFCU Gives Student Scholarships

BURBANK, Calif.-The Burbank Federal Credit Union awarded $2,100 in scholarships to six student volunteers of the Student Credit Union.

SEFCU Sponsors "Daffodil Days"

ALBANY, N.Y.-SEFCU donated $7,500 to the American Cancer Society's annual fundraiser, Daffodil Days. As the major sponsor of Daffodil Days, SEFCU held employee and sidewalk sales at its State Campus and New Karner Road locations which raised an additional $1,100.

T&C Teaches Middle School

PONTIAC, Mich.-T&C Federal Credit Union conducted a financial awareness program for the seventh graders at Jefferson/Whittier Middle School. The program included information on budgeting, savings, checking accounts, ATMs, electronic banking and loans for college.

T &C also sponsored The Oakland Press 2000 Regional Spelling Bee. A total of 72 students participated, and Jeff Walden of St. Matthew Lutheran School was the winner.

SCCU Opens New Branch

MELBOURNE, Fla.-Space Coast Credit Union recently held a ribbon-cutting celebration for the opening of its new Port Malabar branch. SCCU also helped out the Brevard youth in crisis by supporting Annual Duck Race held by Crosswinds Youth Services, Inc. "Our employees and our members consistently demonstrate a willingness to support efforts that improve our community," stated SCCU's President, Doug Samuels.

WEIRTON, W. Va.-Steel Works Community FCU held a grand opening event at its new Wintersville, Ohio branch. More than 500 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony

Truliant Sponsors Kid Safety Fair

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Truliant FCU sponsored a Kid Care Safety and Health Fair. Parents were provided with a free Kid Care photo and fingerprint ID kit for their child. The county health department provided health, and nutrition tips. The event also provided limited health screenings and discussions on brain and spinal cord injury prevention, dental hygiene, poison control and Internet safety.

Va. League Honors Volunteers

LYNCHBURG, Va.-The Virginia Credit Union League presented Jesse and Gladys Fleming with its Volunteer of the Year award, in recognition of their efforts in organizing NCP Community Development FCU, which serves lower-income neighborhoods in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth. The league also honored Susan Adams, CEO-Forenbord FCU, with the Gene Farley Credit Union Professional of the Year in recognition of her leadership and help in organizing a golf tournament to benefit the devastation of the town of Franklin and Bronco FCU, which was caused by Hurricane Floyd.

CU Changes Name To NHCCU

ARVADA, Colo.-Gates Community CU recently changed its name to New Horizons Community Credit Union. With more than 16,000 members, New Horizons Community CU serves employees and retirees of the Gates Rubber Co., residents of the south metro area and persons related to those residents.

GCCU Mergers With DCCU

MADISON, Wis.-Gateway Community CU , a $7-million CU with 1,800 members, merged with Dane County Credit Union, a $40-million CU with 7,200 members.

"We're extremely excited about serving our members and helping them meet their future financial needs," said Linda Wilkinson, president of Dane County Credit Union.

Ariz. CUs Participate In Expo

PHOENIX-Arizona FCU, CU West, Desert Schools FCU, Motorola ECU West, Samaritan FCU, ACUL Services, Inc., and the Arizona CU League staffed booths during the two-day Arizona Family Women's Expo. The credit unions had an opportunity to share information regarding credit union membership, employment opportunities, while women stopped by the booth and entered a drawing to win $100.

Capital Opens Two New Offices

KIMBERLY, Wis.-Capital Credit Union opened two new offices in Larry's Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in Kaukauna and Little Chute.

"These new locations will offer more convenient access to our existing membership in Outagemie, Calumet and Winnebago counties," said Capital CEO Alan Aierler.

ECCU Plants Tree To Honor Chair

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-Educational Community Credit Union' board chair Connie Cason recently retired and refused plaques and banned speeches after announcing her plans. The credit union thanked her by planting a magnolia tree in her honor.

CFEFCU Paint The Town

ORLANDO-Central Florida Educators FCU participated in the Rotary Street Painting Festival, which benefits the community's youth program. Orangewood Christian School Art students Kristen Koldnhoven, Amanda Taylor and Christina Simms, gave their time and talent on behalf of CFEFCU.
