Hawaii Community Names Veteran CU Leader As Interim CEO

KAILAU KONA, Hawaii — Hawaii Community FCU here has named Thomas Griffiths as interim chief executive, as the credit union's current president and CEO, James Takamine, prepares to step down in early January.

Griffiths has served on HCFCU's supervisory committee for nearly two years, and comes to the credit union with a deep background in the CU community, including more than three decades at the Iowa Credit Union League, where he spent 21 years as CEO.

Griffiths retired in 2006 and moved to Hawaii, but in 2012 served as temporary CEO at the New Jersey Credit Union League until Greg Michlig was hired for that position earlier this year.

Takamine will step down from Hawaii Community on Jan. 1.

Board President Dwight Manago thanked him in a statement "for leading us through a very challenging economic cycle," while also crediting Griffiths' "vast experience and knowledge in the industry."

HCFCU serves 41,000 members with more than $378 million in assets.
