ST. LOUIS - A patron wearing a dark suit and fedora and smoking a pipe while he waits for a teller, may not be a gentleman after all, but a serial robber who has stumped investigators over the past two months.

Dubbed the "Gentleman Thief," he allegedly began with a robbery last month at Arsenal CU, then hit at least four more area financial institutions.
When he gets to the teller, he usually opens his appointment books and pulls out a note that he calmly hands over saying, 'This is a robbery, I have a gun, don't be stupid." So far, though, the Gentleman has not showed a gun.
